New Campus Esports Centre In Stockton University, NJ

An esports Innovation Center has been opened in Stockton University’s Atlantic City campus in partnership with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA). Atlantic City is a major economic earner for NJ, and esports facilities will only push up the city’s financial potential.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the University and NJDEA. NJDEA will support the creation of the esports centre by providing funds for $ 200,000. Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs of NJ, Sheila Oliver, claims that the Stockton project is part of a larger effort to revitalize Atlantic City and create opportunities for sustainable economic growth.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NJDEA, Tim Sullivan, also agrees that new introducing markets like esports have the potential for creating equitable, lasting economic development. The esports center at Stockton University will create many new opportunities for employment. But this center will have to work closely with the Gaming Enforcement Division of New Jersey to ensure that illegal practices do not creep into the establishment.

In September 2020, the NJDEA came up with a strategic plan to push for the growth of the esports industry in New Jersey. There are plans to start a collegiate-level esports league. There are also plans in the making for starting VIE Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Legend Series in NJ to allow more scope for wagering in esports.

The Stockton University collaboration is part of the NJDEA’s larger commitment towards the growth of esports in the State. With hefty funds being allotted for the project, it is obvious that the State of New Jersey envisions the campus Innovation Centre as a major hotspot for esports events in the State.

The potential returns from esports can be huge and the NJDEA is keen to cash in on it. The future will possibly see even larger investments in esports projects in New Jersey.
